Hooray for three day weekends and also parents who will spend their day off working on their kids’ house. Doug and my dad spent nine hours on Monday taking walls out, putting up dry wall and re-building new walls. They got so much done it was great. We still have a long way to go on our project but we’re at least making headway each week. Here is part of the new archway they worked on (this used to be a solid wall).
Doug getting handy with the drill. We were preparing for the electrician to come over and install new lights.
Four hours, lots of debris, several wires and a Hawaiian pizza later we got our can lights in! Doug helped the electrician and I was there for comic relief that’s why I say “we”. The result is much better in person. Especially considering there were no lights in here before.
We all have our days where we stare out the frosty window dreaming of warmer days to come.
We got some sweet new headsets at work last week and I proudly installed mine myself. Doug thinks I look like I’m from space. I think I look like a telemarketer (for those that don’t know what I do- I’m not a telemarketer despite what it may look like). It is a lot easier to work and talk on the phone with the contraption on and most of the other guys in the office got them too so I don’t feel alone. I went with the blue tint to further Doug’s thoughts of me being from the future and living in space. Because future space is blue? Ok, I don’t know why I went with the blue tint.
My pretend sister Claire stopped by for a short visit on Saturday while she was in town. Always nice to catch up. We can go months and months without talking and then instantly pick up where we left off.
Oh, let me share a funny story. So last night Doug and I went to our favorite Chinese restaurant that I’ve mentioned before. It seems we find ourselves there about once a week so the employees all recognize us when we go now. They don’t know our names, but if they had nicknames for us I would bet they’d be something like “funny hat guy and eggplant girl” or something close unto. Anyway, I ordered my usual eggplant dish, Doug tried something new, we discussed how they make their eggrolls so perfectly small and flaky, talked to one of the Chinese waitresses for a bit, ya know just a regular night at Great Hunan. I went to go pay while Doug finished his meal and the lady that had waited on us (she’s always there, maybe the manager?) started explaining to me, in broken English, that her boss wanted to consolidate their menus (they have their regular menu and then just a piece of paper with some Thai choices on it that they hand you separately). So the boss wants to combine them in one. She said he told her that when they do so he wants to cut the Garlic Eggplant dish. I gasped. That’s the meal I order every week. I really can’t get enough eggplant. She then said “I tell him a woman comes here and always order eggplant. She be very sad if you cut.” I laughed and told her thank you! So, from what I understand they will keep the dish solely for me. Best ever. It’s like my whole life has been leading up to this one moment.
Now this is what you’ve all been waiting for. I’m sure. A canvas printing website had their canvases on a pretty good sale recently so I thought it’d be funny to order Doug a giant canvas print of a cat for Valentines day. Because who does that? He had just taken the picture of Felix which was pretty cool (shown below on the bottom) so I ordered it and gave it to him like a week early when it arrived because there is no way I could keep it a secret clear until Valentines day. He thought it was hilarious and that was that. Then we felt bad we only had one of Felix…so we ordered two more. It got out of hand really fast and now we have not one but three giant canvas prints of our pet cats hung up in our house. So that’s where we are now. We just hit a new level of crazy.
