A Little Fruity

Exotic and new types of fruit are always exciting to try in a new place. Here are a few of the interesting fruits available here:

We buy these cheep and delicious tangerines by the dozen. They taste just like a regular tangerine and are the regular bright orange on the inside. I just think the green skin is so tricky!

This is a small fruit called a lichee. A somewhat hard shell, with a soft white flesh and a large seed on the inside. Mild taste, maybe a little like a grape. You don’t eat the hairy outside, you peel that off and just eat the jelly-ball in the middle and then spit out the seed.

I reached to buy some apples and the lady wanted me to try these also. I don’t know the english name yet, I just refer to them as mini apples.

Tomato? I think not. I’ve made that mistake a few times. It’s actually a fruit. I was just told in English this fruit is called a persimmon. It doesn’t taste as good as it looks. The flesh is stringy and not too flavorful. Not my favorite.

The dragon fruit. Possibly the most beautiful fruit I’ve ever seen. Vibrant pink and green skin, wonderfully contrasting white and black flesh. It’s delicious to boot! The taste is somewhere between a kiwi and a pear.

I think nuts belong with the fruit. These chestnuts are roasted along the streets and served hot and fresh out of woks. They’re Doug’s favorite.

The dragon fruit looks like poppyseed bread in a pretty baking dish! I agree with Meredith – bring some home! I don’t think it will be hard at all to get through customs! Ha!
