Long day to Laos

Doug and I decided we wanted to go on a day tour that would take us up to Laos with some interesting stops along the way. First stop was some natural hot springs. This wasn’t too exciting for us, being from Idaho, but it was pretty cool to see because there were some elderly ladies around the hot springs that were using them to boil eggs that they would sell to the tourists. So clever.

Fresh boiled eggs anyone?

Next stop was the White Temple. A 13-year-old Buddhist temple that is still in the works. Crazy architecture and design made this temple so interesting and aesthetically pleasing.

We ventured northward to the “Golden Triangle”. This is the area where Myanmar (Burma), Laos and Thailand all meet but are separated by the river. We took a boat trip across the river into Laos. It was actually quite underwhelming. But still a nice area and we could look over into Myanmar.

On our way back we took a little detour to see the Akha Hill Tribe people. There are 9 main hill tribes left in Thailand. We spent a little time walking around their village and seeing how they live. You may be surprised to hear they have satellite TV.
