Chiang Mai

After our lazy and relaxing time on the beaches of southern Thailand, we flew up north to a place called Chiang Mai. We were so impressed with how clean and beautiful the city was. We loved exploring and went on a self-guided tour around some of the Buddhist temples in the area. The city is saturated with “tuk-tuks”, basically a moto-taxi and a really fun way to travel (and slightly scary at times…)

It was nice walking around and seeing evidence of how spiritual and devoted the people are to Buddhism. We would often see offerings placed around with freshly burning incense. It was very common to see Monks all around Thailand. In public areas (like the airport) there was usually preferred seating aside for them as well.

That evening we decided to take an authentic Thai cooking class. The menu: Tom Yum Soup, Green Curry, Cashew Chicken, Pad Thai and Mangos with Sticky Rice. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! First we went to the local market to get a tour and learn about the fresh ingredients we would be using for our meal.

After our tour and getting all our ingredients, we headed off to the kitchens to begin. We had so much fun learning the Thai style of cooking.  It’s very simple using only a few ingredients for each dish but combining them in the right way created the best flavors!

Time to enjoy!

We met a couple of girls from Hollywood who are both actresses. One is a nurse on Days of our Lives (far right) and the other was on The Closer (far left). We had a fun time with them and got their autographs for when they’re famous someday.

Doug was really excited to meet celebrities!
