Koh Pu

After the touristy hustle and bustle of Phi Phi we decided to slow down and head to a more remote island called Koh Pu. So, yes, we went from “pee-pee” to “poo”.  We were some of the only ones going there on the ferry.

No one goes to Koh Pu!

The ferry can’t even dock on this small island. The ferry just stops in the middle of the water and we are picked up by some long tail boats. We had to jump down from the ferry on the long tails then were taken back to shore. That was our first clue that our island was more remote.

We were taken to the restaurant at our bungalows and given fresh squeezed pineapple juice. The owner took us to our bungalow and showed us around a little bit. We noticed we didn’t even have a blanket or sheet, just a big mosquito net. We took a nap and spent the rest of the evening exploring our part of the island. Which turned out just to be three other sets of bungalows along the beach and that was it! We had a nice Thai dinner then headed up to our bungalow. I asked one of the guys if we could get a blanket or a sheet. He nodded and went into the back, he returned with a bag and we headed up to our room. When I opened the bag I realized the “blanket” was just a big beach towel! True island living.

The next day we saw that a bunch of  monkeys lived in the trees above our bungalows. They would often jump down on our roof to get from one tree to another. They were fun to watch and we really felt like we were in the jungle after that.

The next three days were spent reading, walking up and down the beach,  swimming, monkey watching, playing cards, eating and relaxing. There was only one computer available at a bungalow down the beach from us, no tv, radio or  outlets to plug anything in our room. It was wonderful! A great get-away.

One morning we woke up and were discussing our plans for the day and what we needed to do. The only thing that came up on the list was: build a sand castle. If only every day were that busy :)

We did take an excursion into the “city” of Koh Pu. It was about a 25 minute moto ride.  It was great to see the other parts of the small island. There was a small school and a small hospital. The Thai people here are mostly fisherman. There were a few restaurants and shops in the tiny town that were fun to look at. The island really had a great vibe. We hope that it can stay that way for a long time to come.

We were so sad to leave Koh Jum (Koh Pu). It is truly a special place.

Another day in paradise
