Farewell China

Hard to believe that it is already our last night in China. There are many things we aren’t going to miss: the driving, the cold/unheated buildings, the people selling Chinese whiskey and bread outside our apartment that yell every day, seeing everyone hawking loogies, our bathroom, not being able to flush toilet paper, “squatter” toilets, random people taking our picture etc.

There are so many more things we will miss about China: the food, the four day weekends, teaching, our students, random people taking our picture, our little “bedroom”, and Chinese culture. But most of all, we’ll miss our friends that we’ve grown to love here in China.

Fabrice: The winner of the Xiangtan Friendship Award and excellent cook
Dr. Masaru Kawaminami: Japanese teacher and origami enthusiast
Lucas: party animal and honorary "foreigner"
Christian: talented Chinese opera singer and smoke-ring-maker
Jane: best Chinese helper and friend! Albert: great writer and awkward-moment-maker :)
Michelle: our co-teacher and dear friend
The Crew

Xiangtan 1st Branch

There are so many more, sorry we could not get everyone’s picture up!

Chinese RMB in all its glory!

Here is our 10’x10′ box that we live in. It’s our heated oasis. Our bedroom, office, laundry room, living room, make-up/hair room, and dining room.

Our bedroom… and so much more

To all our friends we’ve made in China: you are always welcome to visit us in Idaho, we’ll be keeping a bed or couch open and ready! We look forward to our paths’crossing again.

We’ve had such a great experience! Thank you China! We will miss you

We are also excited for your safe return home! We have enjoyed experiencing China (by proxy) through the lens of your camera and your great stories. Love you both.

Oh my Lady Gaga I look so old on that picture ! Actually I look old in real Iife I think. I’ve just watched pictures from 2 years and a half ago, I looked better, so young, so fresh, so innocent. The totale inverse of now.

    Grrrr I hate getting older. Ou sont-ils a present mes 20 ans ?… I wanna cry…

Thank you for saying I’am a good cook although it should be really hard to find a wife.
No that’s wrong, lot of Chinese girls say I’m “shai ge” but I’m not a nice young boy anymore, that’s a (n horrific) fact.

Only George Clooney is old and handsome. And he likes good coffee. Damn I hate him !

Please burn this picture, as I burned my youthness in artificial Asian (kind of) paradises. And say to your former student “Peter Pan” I’m jealous.

And sorry everybody to bother you with my self-psychoanalysis.

By the way Aly, your hair look purple on the same picture : it’s cute :-)

PS : My smoke-rings are better than Christian’s.

Fab! I don’t even know what you are talking about, you are still young and fresh (but maybe not innocent)! Besides that you are “so fashion” with your cute little scarves and your mod new glasses riding on your moped. :)
I agree that my hair looks purple. And I believe you that your smoke rings are better than Christian’s- but I couldn’t give you all the glory!
